The Equestrian Wasteland is the vast expanse of territory that once comprised the pony nation of Equestria. Ruins of pre-war civilization are scattered throughout the wastes, and small pockets of life have risen from the ashes of the world that came before.

Regions of the Equestrian Wasteland[]

Main article: List of locations in Fallout Equestria#Regions

The Equestrian Wasteland can be roughly divided into several regions: the Canterlot ruins, the Fillydelphia ruins, the Everfree Forest, the Manehattan ruins, the countryside surrounding New Appleloosa, and the Ponyville ruins. There is also the region above the cloud cover occupied by pegasi, and Littlehorn Valley, which exists near the border between Equestria and the zebra nation.

The Equestrian Heartland[]

The Equestrian Heartland is a large expanse of rural countryside nestled between the major metropolitan centers of pre-war civilization. Population levels have always been generally low in the Equestrian countryside; most pre-war settlements were minor farming towns and trading outposts, and this continues to hold true for the majority of post-war settlements.

Ponyville Ruins[]

Ponyville was the largest farming settlement in the Equestrian countryside prior to the war. It was known for its apple farms. It is now in ruins and has become a center for raider activity.

Manehattan Ruins[]

Manehattan, situated in southwestern Equestria, was a pre-war metropolis and one of Equestria's largest and most dense population centers prior to the war. It is now a sprawling ruin, having been a target of a significant megaspell detonation.

Fillydelphia Ruins[]

Fillydelphia was the main manufacturing hub of Equestria during the war. It has been occupied by Red Eye as the capital of his slaver empire. A contingent of Steel Rangers also exist in Fillydelphia.

Canterlot Ruins[]

Canterlot, situated on a steep mountainside in the northeastern Equestrian Wastelands, was a pre-war metropolis and the capital of the pony nation of Equestria. As the center of government in Equestria, it was home to Princesses Celestia and Luna, as well as the headquarters of the six ministries that comprised pre-war Equestrian parliament. The majority of its population consisted of unicorns. It is now an irradiated ruin, having been the target of a pink cloud megaspell detonation.

The Everfree Forest[]

The Everfree Forest, located in the northwestern Equestrian Wasteland, is a large expanse of woodland that has yet to be exposed to megaspell radiation. Despite its purity, the entire region has always been a magical abnormality, and many strange flora and fauna exist there, making it a dangerous and unpredictable location.

Geography[]

Post-megaspell Equestria is a hellish landscape of toxic soil. Due to the hazardous residual after-effects of the megaspell detonations, much of the land is uninhabitable.

Equestria cannot sustainably support life, since survivors cannot have clean water without a Water Talisman or grow food due to the polluted soil.

Some areas in Equestria are still uninhabitable, not because of wild animals or utter decimation but because of radiation, taint, and "pink cloud."

Wildlife[]

As animals are unable to discern what areas may not be safe, many have mutated over time. Some animal populations, such as the phoenix, were transformed into a new species. Ponies that have survived exposure to these conditions become either ghouls, which retain their mental faculties, or zombies, which do not.

Society and Culture[]

Centralized government no longer exists, and most surviving citizens either reside in generally isolated makeshift township communities or participate in independent bands of lawless thugs that attempt to terrorize and pillage the last remaining pockets of civilization.

Survivors are forced to live off of food that had been preserved before the megaspell event, or become omnivores and eat cooked meat from small game, radigators, and in some cases other ponies. Surprisingly, after 200 years without food production there has yet to be a serious food crisis, though this appears to be unsustainable for the immediate future.

Most communities adhere to a moral code, while larger populations such as that of Tenpony Tower have an actual system of law. Bandit and Slaver communities, on the other hand, are ruled according to who has the "biggest stick," or the strongest ability to impose their will on others. Mercenaries, such as griffons, simply work and live according to the contracts they accept.
